A relationship with a therapist is very important. You want to be able to say things you can’t even tell your family or friends.
Take your time
When you are looking for a therapist, take your time. Contact a few.
Ask if you can ask him or her a few questions.
All through the process, trust your impressions.
Ask him or her what he or she offers. What can you expect from counselling?
What professional body does he or she belong to?
Where did he or she qualify? How long did it take?
What are his or her fees?
When and where will he or she be available?
Ask
After the chat, ask yourself :
Did I like what I heard?
What impression did I get?
Would this be good for me?
Take your time before taking the next step.
If, after some sessions, it turns out that this might not have been the right choice, tell your therapist. He or she would like to know. And you can always leave.
